The Good and Right Way
Church problems were nothing new to one veteran pastor. After forty years of pulpit ministry, he had seen everything at least twice. But after months of tensions over a proposed building addition, the pastor faced one Sunday morning with exceptional weariness. Several individuals and families had chosen to fellowship elsewhere. The view from the pulpit was disheartening.
“Far be it from me that I should sin against the Lord by failing to pray for you. And I will teach you the way that is good and right” (1 Samuel 12:23).
As the pastor opened his sermon with prayer, his voice betrayed his heart. His sorrow was contagious. Others in the congregation began to call upon the Lord openly. Tears and weeping touched almost every pew. When he was able, the pastor took off his glasses, wiped his eyes, and began to teach about the importance of commitment. He assured his flock that with God’s help, together, they would navigate whatever awaited them.
